Klout for Good: Celebrate International Women’s Month with Kiva

Friday, March 8th, 2013

Klout believes everyone has influence, and influence comes with responsibility. Klout for Good aims to help you leverage your influence to make the world a better place for everyone.

March 8th is International Women’s Day and it’s a time to celebrate the past, present and future of women. We’ve partnered with Kiva this month to not just celebrate, but continue the momentum of progress made by women every day.

Kiva’s mission is to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. In places around the world where there are no traditional financial institutions, Kiva is there to provide small loans to local entrepreneurial people. This month, you can empower women with small loans through Kiva. When you lend to a woman, she invests in her community and her family.

Visit Kiva’s Klout for Good page where you can learn how to support a woman and spread the word about this great initiative for International Women’s Day.

Klout for Good: Fight Rare Cancers with Cycle for Survival

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013

Klout believes everyone has influence, and influence comes with responsibility. Klout for Good aims to help you leverage your influence to make the world a better place for everyone.

This month’s Klout For Good charity partner hits close to home for many of us at Klout. So close that Dave Linn, founder of Cycle for Survival, personally came to the Klout office to ask for our help. Now, we are excited to join the battle with Cycle for Survival to beat rare cancers.

So, what is Cycle for Survival? It’s the national, high-energy, indoor team cycling event that funds rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Together with its founding partner, Equinox, Cycle for Survival raises money to fight rare cancers by funding critical research. With over $21 million raised since 2007, Cycle for Survival makes a tangible and significant impact in the fight against rare cancers – 100% of all funds raised go directly to the most promising research at MSKCC within six months of each event.

Fifty percent of all people diagnosed with cancer have a rare form of the disease – including well-known cancers like leukemia, all pediatric cancers, and sarcoma – and those researching cures and treatments for those cancers need funding to make progress possible. To date, Cycle for Survival has funded 53 clinical trials and research studies, paving the way for better, more effective treatment options for those fighting rare cancers. But there is more work to be done.

Today, Cycle for Survival is a juggernaut. This year’s events are taking place at 12 Equinox clubs across the country. Cycle for Survival asked us to help, and now we are asking you.

Beyond our fundraising efforts, Klout employees will compete in the San Francisco Cycle for Survival event on February 2. We are proud to ride in the name of those whom cancer has taken from us.

Most of us know a friend or family member battling cancer and they need our help. Learn how your influence and donations can help combat rare forms of cancer on our Klout For Good site.

Klout for Good: Helping Haitians Change Haiti through Education

Thursday, January 10th, 2013

Klout believes everyone has influence, and influence comes with responsibility. Klout for Good aims to help you leverage your influence to make the world a better place for everyone.

January 12 marks the third anniversary of the devastating earthquake that left Haiti in tatters. In the time since, the island nation has regrouped and rebuilt. Now, they are ready to move from relief to lasting development, and education is the key. Haiti Partners wants to help the country gain access to education, and they are asking for the Klout community’s help.

Here’s how we can help get quality education resources to Haiti: We can donate our influence by liking and following Haiti Partners, and then sharing this cause throughout our social networks. Secondly, we can volunteer our time and talents in a variety of ways that will provide much needed aid to the Haitian people. And finally, we can donate $15 to Haiti Partners, which will put a Haitian child through two weeks of school. We all know education is paramount to helping children achieve their dreams, and we can easily help make a few dreams come true.

To learn more, visit our Klout For Good site and read up on Haiti Partners.

Klout for Good: Join Social Santa and Bring Toys to Underprivileged Children

Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

Klout believes everyone has influence, and influence comes with responsibility. Klout for Good aims to help you leverage your influence to help make the world more a better place for everyone.

Simply put, there are children who won’t have presents to open this December. We can change that.

Klout is proud to team up with Operation: Social Santa for our latest Klout for Good partnership. With the Klout community’s help, we can bring the joy of tearing open presents to children who otherwise might miss out. All you have to do is donate your influence and tell your networks about this amazing opportunity to keep holiday cheer alive in countless children.

Operation: Social Santa was founded in 2010 to rally the social media savvy and host toy drives to collect gifts for underprivileged children. Klout for Good wants to help them grow this cause, and with your help we know we can.

“We’ve been doing this for three years now, and the support we have gained never ceases to amaze me. Klout has been one of the biggest pieces to our success not only because of their reach, but because they are in this to help and influence others into giving back as well. As a result, people all around the world have attended our events to give back and participate in the idea of social good,” says Harrison Kratz, founder of Operation: Social Santa.

Donate your influence now and let your networks know about Operation: Social Santa so that we can make the holidays more magical this year. And if you can, attend an event and donate a toy to really help spread the cheer.

You can learn more about this great opportunity on our Klout for Good page.

Klout for Good: Putting an End to Hunger with the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

Klout believes everyone has influence, and influence comes with responsibility. Klout for Good aims to help you leverage your influence to help make the world more a better place for everyone.

At the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks, their mission is to end hunger. It’s a huge job that’s only gotten tougher as our community struggles with a prolonged period of economic distress, and record numbers of people find themselves in a position they never thought they’d be in: needing food assistance. The Food Bank will serve more than 225,000 people in the San Francisco and Marin this year with a high demand for food and meals this upcoming holiday season.

We’ve partnered with the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks this month to raise awareness about local families who may not be able to afford food this holiday season. Help us spread the word by donating your influence about the Food Bank to your friends and family, and help a family in need this holiday.

In addition to our Klout for Good campaign with the Food Bank, the Klout team will also donate a Saturday morning in November by volunteering at the Food Bank to give back to the local community. We are really excited to get a hands-on experience with the Food Bank and help support our community hands-on. Keep in touch with us on our Twitter and Facebook as we document the experience live and afterwards with a wrap-up on our blog.

Klout for Good: Helping Put an End to the Illegal Wildlife Trade

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

Klout believes everyone has influence, and influence comes with responsibility. Klout for Good aims to help you leverage your influence to help make the world more a better place for everyone.

The illegal wildlife trade is estimated to be worth more than $10 billion per year and has drastically reduced many wildlife populations around the world. Every year, hundreds of millions of dollars are spent protecting animals in the wild, yet virtually nothing is spent on stopping the demand for wildlife parts and products.

WildAid, an international non-profit organization based in San Francisco, is the only organization focused on reducing the demand for endangered species products. With an unrivaled portfolio of Celebrity Ambassadors like Yao Ming, Jackie Chan, Harrison Ford and Leonardo DiCaprio, WildAid delivers high-impact, culturally sensitive multimedia campaigns reaching one billion people every week, globally.

Klout for Good: Bring Clean Water to Rwanda

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

Klout believes everyone has influence, and influence comes with responsibility. Klout for Good aims to help leverage your influence to make the world a better place for everyone.

Clean water is a basic necessity that we easily take for granted. We can effortlessly fill our glasses from the faucet or buy bottles at a convenience store without a second thought. In other parts of the world, people are not as fortunate—800 million people don’t have access to clean drinking water. The hardest hit areas are in developing nations, like Rwanda, which is predominantly rural and one the most densely populated nations in Africa. Charity: water, a non-profit organization, helps bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Charity: water is working directly with the people of Rwanda to raise $1.7 million, which would give 26,000 people in the Rulindo District clean and safe drinking water.

forgood.klout.com

Back in March 2012, we partnered with charity: water for its “Donate your Birthday” campaign, and more than 5,000 Klout users answered the call to donate their birthday toward clean water donations rather than receiving gifts. We’ve teamed up again with our friends at charity: water to help raise awareness about their “September” campaign. Visit the Klout for Good website, watch videos of personal stories from the people of Rwanda, and donate your influence by sharing the site with your friends and family.

Keep coming back to the site as we’ll be posting new video content every week until the end of their “September” campaign. During the final week of the campaign, we’ll bring you a live video of charity: water employees on the ground in Rwanda.

Team Klout Walks to Help End AIDS

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Sunday, July 15, 2012, was a typical foggy day in San Francisco. More than 20,000 people from all across the Bay Area gathered in Golden Gate Park for one mission: to help end AIDS.

Everyone gathered around the event’s main stage for the opening announcements. “AIDS Walk is vital to our efforts to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and make sure all people living with the disease have access to proper care. This year, the foundation marks its 30th year of answering the call from our community.” said Neil Giuliano, CEO of San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

Team Klout was also on the ground donating its time and feet to the cause. Twenty Klout employees, plus their friends, family and one puppy walked the 10k course on Sunday as they shared the experience on Facebook and Twitter. Team Klout raised more than $1.1k in funds to help fight AIDS.

Other companies, such as Twitter, Pixar, Google and Starbucks were also out at the event to support the end of AIDS. Katelin Holloway, Director of People and Culture at Klout, talks more about her personal experience at AIDS Walk SF:

“Influence encompasses so much more than how many Facebook friends you have, who retweets you, and what restaurants to go to. Influence also includes helping your community to find its voice, illustrating a cause, and effecting positive change. On Sunday we used our influence to raise awareness about AIDS. We took a stand with our community to help fund the research that will end this epidemic. I’ve been participating in the San Francisco AIDS Walk for 7 years, honoring the memory of someone very close to me. It’s such a deeply personal event and I was thrilled to be able to walk alongside my coworkers this year. My heart swells with pride seeing a whole community pull their influence together and make a true impact.”

Earlier this month, Klout users were able to take part in this event thanks to the Klout for Good and AIDS Walk San Francisco partnership. Klout users were asked to help spread the word about the campaign on Twitter, and each tweet would push a virtual Klout team 2.5 meters. Influencers answered the call and reached the 10k goal by the fourth day of the campaign. To date, virtual team Klout has completed the animated course nearly twice—19,520 meters.

In total, all walkers at the event helped fundraise $2.7 Million and walked more than 124,000 miles. That is almost the equivalent of walking around the Earth five times!

We at Klout want to thank you all so much for your support with AIDS Walk San Francisco and continued support with our Klout for Good program!

Friday, June 1st, 2012

Klout believes everyone has influence, and influence comes with responsibility. Klout for Good aims to help you leverage your influence to help make the world more a better place for everyone.

Since launching in 2006, (RED) and its many partners, such as Apple, Starbucks and Coca-Cola have committed to help AIDS in Africa. To date, (RED) partners and events have raised $190 million with 100% of that money going to work on the ground – no overhead is taken. On World AIDS Day last year, Klout worked with (RED) and ONE as a media partner for their 2015(QUILT) campaign. We’re excited to announce our next partnership with (RED) for its (RED)RUSH TO ZERO campaign that begins today!

Every day, 1,000 babies are born with HIV. By 2015, that number can be close to zero. Every generation is known for something. Let’s be the one that delivers an AIDS FREE GENERATION. (RED)RUSH TO ZERO runs from June 1st – 10th. 10 days with 10 different ways you can fight AIDS. If you’re a gamer, take part in The (RED)RUSH Games. If you’re a music fanatic, check out (RED)ROWS for concerts from some of the hottest artists that will benefit (RED) through ticket sales. If you’re a social media pro (which we know you are!) check-in on foursquare at participating (RED) partners like Starbucks and you’ll trigger a $1 donation.

On Klout, please spread the word about the #REDRUSH campaign through our Klout for Good program on your social networks and learn more about how to get involved with (RED)RUSH TO ZERO in your community at redrush.com.
