Top 10 Post-Season Baseball Players

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

It’s been a dramatic baseball season with the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves choking away their playoff spots. Of the two wild card teams to make it into the final eight, the Tampa Bay Rays have already lost their series to the Texas Rangers. That leaves only seven teams left in the running for the World Series as of today. With the post-season just heating up, we decided see which of the remaining active baseball players have the most Klout.

The Philadelphia Phillies dominate this week’s list, claiming four of the top ten spots. The New York Yankees also make a strong showing with two players in the top ten.

Check out the rest of the list to see if you’re favorite player made our list of most influential baseball players.

Top 10 Most Influential Colleges

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Many students are in the midst of midterms right now, worrying about how their hastily scrawled exams will fare under the critical eyes of their professors. Well, we’ve decided to turn the tables (or desks) and make the schools sweat. Let’s see who set the curve in Klout’s list of the top ten influential schools.

Since the last time we ranked schools, there have been some big changes. Texas A&M, who wasn’t even on the list earlier this year, is now at the top of the class. Other rising stars include University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Oklahoma. Both have steadily worked their way up the ranks to the number two and four spots respectively. Stanford, who previously held the highest honor of being the most influential university, is now in seventh place.

Check out the rest of our list to see what other schools made the top ten.

Moneyball: Klout, Cash and Baseball

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Hey there Sports fans! To celebrate the launch of Moneyball, aka the 1st movie about Brad Pitt and Statistics, we decided it might be swell to grab some hunks of data on whether this whole money isn’t speech wins thing holds true since everybody who can stomach sports writing now knows the secrets of Beane and Jonah Hill’s mad science.

Unfortunately, the Oakland A’s have not been able to succeed in games or with their Klout Score this season, despite being just 22 minutes from the epicenter of influence: Klout HQ. However, there is only one other team with more wins that spends less money on salary and those guys are from Canada – land of Polar Bears and free healthcare – so it’s not really a fair comparison.

Looking at the general trend leads to some mixed conclusions, on one hand it unfortunately seems like in baseball you can pay to win games; on the other, spending bags of cash is probably better than juicing your players. Focusing on Klout Scores, team performance is the best predictor of a high score, although the Yankees do register a 5 point lead over the Phillies despite being 3 games back; round here we call that the Jay-Z factor.

See a preview below and click for the full infographic.

Until next time… stay thirsty, my friends.

10 Most Influential TV Shows

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

With the Emmy Awards recognizing television’s best programming this past weekend and dozens of shows premiering this week, we decided to see which TV shows have the most Klout.

Our list has a mix of long-running shows like The Daily Show (on air since 1996), and newcomers like Game of Thrones. They are evenly distributed across network, cable, and premium television; no network holds more than two spots. These shows have done a great job of engaging their fans: not only on the TV screen, but on your computer, tablet, and mobile phone. For that, we give them kudos and +Ks.

Top 10 Influential Modeling Agencies

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

The designers at Fashion Week are no doubt the stars of the show, but equally important are the modeling agencies that discover the freshest talent and develop the biggest icons. The top models then bring stunning designs to life as they stalk down the runway, radiating class and sophistication with every step. For this reason, we decided to take a look at the most influential modeling agencies.

In the top three, we have Ford Models, Marilyn Agency, and Storm Model Management. These exclusive and world-renown agencies take a personal and conversational approach to social media. Whether it’s live tweeting from New York Fashion Week, hobnobbing with the elite, highlighting models from their agency, or simply sharing a favorite song, you hear one clear and distinct personality behind each of these agencies. Yes, these people are professional fashionistas who keep company with the most influential designers and models. But at the end of the day, it’s refreshing to hear them ooze and gaze longingly at that one Luca Luca dress coming down the runway like the rest of us. Their passion shines through the content and that is what makes these agencies the top online influencers.

Perks Spotlight: Shripal Shah

Friday, September 9th, 2011

Klout Perks allow you to get exclusive experiences or products from top brands. Some of you have told us it seems “too good to be true” from your perspective, so we wanted to share how brands are having great success with our Perks as well. We interviewed Shripal Shah, who’s been pioneering the use of Perks with his clients.

About Shripal: Shripal is the SVP, Digital at Catalyst Public Relations where he oversees the digital practice for the team. Shah’s responsibilities include overseeing and developing the digital strategy across the agency’s full portfolio of current clients and advancing thought leadership initiatives. Prior to working at Catalyst, Shah worked at the Washington Redskins, as their SVP of Digital Strategy.

We asked…

1. How did you get involved in Klout Perks?
We were looking to find a more analytical way of finding true social influencers for our clients. We also wanted to see how we could find true brand advocates/fans to help our clients and their promotions. We knew folks who introduced us to your senior team, had some conversations at SXSW and shortly thereafter a strategy was launched for one of our clients.

2. Why did you decide to run Klout Perks campaigns for your clients?
One of the primary challenges to our media relations program at the time was developing increased buzz on social media channels. To solve this, we saw an opportunity to develop an influencer-based approach to our existing strategy. Klout seemed like a very targeted way to not only identify influential consumers, but start to develop positive relationships with them. This seemed very synergistic to our media and blogger outreach.

3. How do Perks campaigns fit into your clients spend? Are they in the social media budget? Media budget? Something else?
We are having to position Klout to clients as a stand-alone campaign. We are presenting an ROI /CPM projection to help the clients make their decisions prior to launch of the campaign and to date we are hitting those projections.

4. Have you and your clients been happy with the results?
Yes, we have been pleased with the results we have seen and now have used Klout Perks for multiple promotions with different clients. We are also gaining efficiencies and learning best practices which we are applying from one campaign to another.

5. Do you have any key learnings or takeaways for other businesses looking to do Perks campaigns?
Initially, we thought we could only use Klout to reach true brand advocates or fans of our brands/clients. However now we are seeing that Klout can also be used to acquire or engage new fans/influencers. We are seeing that Klout can be used in a similar way we use blogger outreach in our media bureau strategies and tactics for our clients. Also maintaining the positive relationships generated by Klout is another key to long-term success.

Top 10 Fashion Week Designers

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is striding onto the scene today. Fashion Week is an annual affair in New York City that showcases the Spring 2012 collections of over 100 internationally acclaimed designers. This year, designers and the press will try to make the event accessible to fashion fans everywhere using social media. Efforts include live streaming on YouTube, updates on Twitter, blogging on Tumblr from backstage VIPs, and even Instagram posts straight from the runway. With the social media buzz surrounding this prestigious event, we decided to see which designers have the most Klout.

At the top of the list is Project Runway. It may not be a single person or even a design collective, but Project Runway is one of the biggest fashion reality TV series and their runway show at Lincoln Center will feature the collections of three finalists from season nine. The people and garments in this show will be kept tightly under wraps but we know that Project Runway will make a strong showing online through its Twitter, Facebook, and website. The rest of the list includes established figures such as Diane von Furstenberg, DKNY, and Michael Kors. These designers have found a way to translate their real world reputations into digital influence and reach audiences everywhere.

So check out the top ten most influential designers who are showcasing in New York City and see if your favorite made the cut.

Top 10 Museums with Klout

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

To avoid becoming obsolete, museums have followed us into the digital world where we spend more and more of our time. By developing an online presence, museums engage with a younger audience (and potentially future patrons) as well as established art aficionados. In addition to keeping museum-goers updated on the newest exhibitions, museums also share great content. They usually highlight a piece or obscure fact at an opportune time, allowing you to step completely outside your world and appreciate the ingenuity or beauty of something. For example, the SF Moma recently tweeted “SFMOMA salutes Steve Jobs for a job well done,” and linked a photo of a Powerbook from 2001. Given all the discussion lately about Steve Jobs’ legacy at Apple, his place among great businessman, and the future of Apple without him, we completely ignored his artistic contributions.

With that, here are the top ten museums. Check to see if your favorite made the list.

SXSW: Community & Influence: How to not piss people off

Friday, August 26th, 2011

How should your influence shape a brand’s interaction with you? Historically, businesses have valued customers based on their lifetime purchase value, but increasingly they’re looking to other factors such as their engagement with the brand and influence level. Unsurprisingly, influence has become a hot topic and community managers disagree on what the best way to use this knowledge is. How do you reward your top influencers without making others feel left out?

At SXSW, I’d like to discuss this with Maria Ogneva, Director of Community at Yammer, Frank Eliason Senior Vice President of Social Media at Citibank, and Evan Hamilton, Community Manager at UserVoice. We’d love if you vote for our panel.

Thanks and hope to see you there!
