Top Brands at CES 2012

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

The 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas started earlier this week. Over 3000 companies will be attending in full force with newest and flashy gadgets for the upcoming year. The biggest news so far is that this will be Microsoft’s last year at CES. Apple has historically been a no-show and it appears that Microsoft is starting to follow suit.

Personally, I’m excited to hear about the newest innovations for televisions and handheld devices. It amazes me how fast the technology improves each year and how the devices we use become even more awesome. I remember my first cell phone in junior high. It was a brick and had a tiny 1″ x 2″ black and green screen that could only make calls. Now we have touch-screen smart phones that can surf the web, video chat and play music. Oh the future we live in!

Regardless, it looks like what happens in Vegas, won’t stay in Vegas! Without further ado, here are the top 10 companies from this year’s CES conference!

Be sure to check out our CES Klout Perks:
- Monster Cable Perk: VIP Guest access to concert and after-party with legendary band Chicago!
- T-Mobile Social King Perk: Be part of the CES 2012 buzz and you could win a great prize pack from T-Mobile.

Are you at CES this year? Who/what was your favorite thing featured this year?

Klout Star: Ashley Hayes

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Our Klout Stars series highlights top influencers and how they got to where they are today.

About Ashley: Ashley Hayes is the San Francisco Community Manager for Google Places, hosting events for Google Places, Offers, Ventures and Zagat. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a double major in Political Science and History, and has lived in San Francisco for six years. Prior to Google, she was the Community Manager for The Go Game, and handled Corporate Communications for AMB Property Corporation. Ashley is incredibly active in the local philanthropic organizations, serving as President for the Spinsters of San Francisco, and member of Symphonix League, EncoreZoo II, and the California Alumni Association.

1. How did you get started in social media?

I was an early adopter of social networks in college, which organically fostered my passion and knowledge in social media. There were several times in past jobs when I was the only one with experience of social network websites, allowing me to represent the company and/or product via social channels. In turn, this led to an extensive social media professional experience, achieved by researching, conferences, connections, and simple trial and error.

2. What does influence mean to you? Who influences you the most online?

Social media influence is incredibly important in our current marketplace, regardless on whether or not your current position acutely focuses on social media. Without establishing long-term connections with local peers and influencers, many opportunities for future employment, collaborations, and quite simply, friendship, would be missed. As for those that influence me the most, I usually look to my fellow community managers, social media and marketing professionals. Since social media is an evolving platform, its important to stay relevant with other experts in the field.

3. What advice do you have for someone who wants to take their online presence to the next level?

Obviously strong social media and networking presence is incredibly important, hence the popularity and necessity of Klout! Google +, Facebook, and Twitter are all essential platforms to utilize with consistent, engaging conversations. LinkedIn is also fantastic to craft professional connections and relationships. But quite honestly, meeting people in person and developing rapport face to face truly is what creates strong, local connections, thereby allowing a more natural investment in your network.

Getting Ready for a Big 2012

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

It’s the new year, and we’re proud to kick things off by announcing a new round of funding! At Klout, we’ve established ourselves as not only the leader in influence but as a key component of the social web. Our mission is to empower every person by unlocking their influence and this funding will allow us to scale that vision.

We’ve already made significant investments in both engineering and infrastructure, and with this funding we’ll invest further in these areas so we can continue to provide the most accurate and transparent measurement of influence. We’ll also help our community become better users of social media, expand Klout Perks so that all influencers are rewarded for their influence, and make it clear why it pays to have Klout.

It’s early in our journey, but we know how passionate people are about their Klout scores and we take this responsibility very seriously. I couldn’t be more proud of the team here at Klout and their commitment to building amazing products and technology.

The round was once again led by Kleiner Perkins and we were lucky enough to have Institutional Venture Partners and Venrock join us along with previous investors Greycroft and ff Venture Capital participating. We are also really excited to have Chi-Hua Chien from Kleiner Perkins join Bing Gordon, Allen Morgan and myself on the Klout board of directors.

2011 was an amazing year here at Klout and we are looking forward to an even bigger 2012. Thank you for all your support in helping us reach this exciting milestone and Happy New Year!
