Rough Agenda: (follow along with hashtag, #kloutchat to be a part of it)

  • Quick intro from Klout on our Topics and Topic Pages
  • Q1: What do you think of the topics on your Klout profile?
  • Q2: How often do you give +K to people? How do you choose who to give it to?
  • Q3: What do you think of Topic Pages? What’s your favorite part?
  • Q4: How do you think we could improve Topic Pages or better highlight them?
  • Q5: When you’re looking up others on Klout are their topics helpful to you?
  • Q6: If you don’t use Klout topics how else do you determine their expertise?
  • Q7: What else would you like to see from us regarding topics?
  • Open up to other questions.

This is subject to change, but we’re looking forward to a great convo! Remember, if your question if specific to your account it’s best to go to support.klout.com and get it answered there. Thanks!

Do you have any questions you want to make sure we address? Post them in the comments and we’ll try to add them to the agenda. #KloutChat is a regular event on the first Wednesday of every month. Note that we’re continuing to experiment with new times — let us know if this is good for you.

What is the best way for a new Klout user, with no topics associated with him, to intentionally put an effort into becoming influential in a specific topic?

  • http://www.bewilderedbug.com Bewildered Bug

My question is how is it possible for me to have a Klout score of 69 and no topics for the past 3 months (at least) – when the people I talk with are considered influential based on conversations that I have with them (for example, a friend and I spoke about diaper cakes that I was building – she is now influential on diapers…still nothing for me?) *confused*

  • Anonymous

Do you work on the possibility to recommend a topic for another klout user ?

  • http://habitue.ca Aeryn Lynne

I’m the one whose now influential on diapers even though I’ve only spoken about them about three times with Bewildered Bug on twitter, and that’s about it, lol.  She’s the one that makes diaper cakes and talks about diapers frequently.  I’m not even a mom, so there’s no reason for me to be influential about diapers in any way.

I want to be able to give klout to some people, such as BB above.  Is there a way coming soon to give +K on topics that aren’t listed in users profile?

I have about 200 facebook friends, but about 1600 fans on my fanpage.  Post about the same for both.  However, when I change my Klout facebook link to my fanpage, my score drops several points.  All else equal, wouldn’t the fanpage carry more weight, or is there at least a way to get credit for both the fan page and my personal page?

I don’t understand topics … never watch sports, play sports, talk about sports, etc. yet I’m influential on sports? How do I get ‘right’ topics?

  • http://twitter.com/AdamBritten Adam Britten

Any plans to localize topics so I can find out…say…who is influential about music in New York or technology in Los Angeles?

  • http://twitter.com/Alexandrafunfit Alexandra Williams

I’m extremely interested in this chat, but teach at that time. Is there a link to the archive as I can only get the most recent tweets when I pull up the hashtag? Thanks!

  • http://twitter.com/Alexandrafunfit Alexandra Williams

I had the same problem so switched back to my personal page, which I hardly ever use. Thanks

Why won’t Klout connections work for me to connect to Blogger, Linked In and Google + i tried numerous times and get some error page.

  • http://twitter.com/EarthAngel2b Yvonne Woodstock

Do you think you will ever connect with http://www.cafemom.com? I should have a lot of Klout on there

  • Lokesh Das

How to add self hosted wordpress to klout ?

  • http://twitter.com/BIOblogger Scott Miller

How can we help others gain topics they deserve but haven’t been credited yet by @Klout??

  • Gjippe

In seesmic dashboard, why does Klout indicate only the score of Twitter users?

How do I attend the #KloutChat?

Ah nevermind, should head read the TweetChat link.

How do I get topics on my profile? Mine always has no topics…

  • http://twitter.com/KKHausman Kalani Kirk Hausman

Providing a listing of the most influential in a particular topic, or all in that topic sortable by influence and how recently they were voted so would make job searching a lot easier for hiring agencies.

  • http://kkhausman.com Kalani Kirk Hausman

For those asking how to attend, go to http://www.tweetchat.com and put in #KloutChat as the hashtag to follow. It’s a little spammy, but works without needing a dashboard like TweetDeck, etc.

  • http://kkhausman.com Kalani Kirk Hausman

The only way I’ve found to gain influence is to tag your tweets that get responded to or retweeted – illustrating that when you talk about a topic, it reaches others and causes them to reply or forward them on. That is the type of influence they are measuring in Klout – when you talk, how many hear and react?

Will there be an “Option” that would allow a person to “suggest” a topic for someone?  I have people that I follow that in my opinion are influential in a “topic” but that topic isn’t one of the categories under their name that I can give them +K .

Example: Iconic88 is really influential in Google+ but is not recognized by #Klout.
I would like to perhaps “suggest” it be a topic that he should be an influencer in!

    Thanks

I’m definitely creating a #Kloutchat stream on my hootsuite :)

Tags with your tweets and use key words in your blogs/FB posts/etc – and talk about the same basic set of topics for a while.

I don’t think topic are accurate at all.  90% of my tweets are about San Jose Sharks, Snow, Snowboarding, or fitness topics.

I don’t see how that ends up listing my #1 topic as cancer, #3 as Cookie Monster, #4 as law and #5 as college.

  • http://www.phillipandrewdodd.com Phillip Dodd

Nick, I would suggest making a list of keyword relevant to your topic, and try to create content using those words about the topic and have conversations with folks about it where possible. I’ve found that my topics have come mainly from common words that I use on Twitter a lot.  Hope this helps.

  • http://www.phillipandrewdodd.com Phillip Dodd

I’d like to know this too. I’ve got one that I’d love to hook up.

  • http://www.phillipandrewdodd.com Phillip Dodd

I’m not sure how they do it, but I’ve seen a lot of folks will post a transcript of the chat after it occurs. I’d be on the lookout for that if you’re interested.

I write at great length about several topics on Facebook and have a decent number of regular followers but I’ve noticed (nearly to the point of disinterest) that Klout aggregates almost entirely from Twitter, which I rarely use, because it’s not really suitable for lengthy, heavy topics. I’m having a difficult time understanding how and/or why Klout is measured based on small bursts of information, mostly from Twitter and despite the fact there are many sources, rather than substantial content, which doesn’t seem to be coming from Facebook. What I see from Facebook being included in Klout appears to be little more than a count of likes and comments which have little or nothing to do with the content posted and does nothing at all with respect to Topics. To me, this doesn’t seem to be very useful or informative and certainly isn’t as efficient as I believe it could be in regard to getting substantial content without having to chase it down over long periods of time over many ‘Tweets’. Perhaps I’m not understanding the way Klout works, though I’m fairly familiar with Social Media. If that’s the case, I’d appreciate some insight or enlightenment. If it is the case, I’d like to suggest an alternative method of aggregation that takes these points into consideration.

my klout topics have disappeared and haven’t come back when they were there before . please provide answers!

    1. I like the Topics section but I think that some are irrelevant at times.
    2. I try and give people a +K as much as possible on their profile especially if they are influential about a topic and I sometimes do it if the topic is way off base.
    3.
    4.
    5. When looking up other peoples Klout I sometimes feel that their topics are not relevant to what they are actually influential about.
    6. I determine their expertise based off of twitter and what they seem to talk about most. When I talked about the iPhone yesterday it became one of my top topics.
    7. I just noticed I became influential about Amy Winehouse and I have never really talked about her so I am confused on how you base our topics.

    8. One thing I would like to see and I have posted this on twitter is that there should be a Vacation function. Not all of us Social Media-philes like to be on 24-7 to maintain our Klout score. We do like to be able to take a weekend and relax without having our score go down. This would actually prompt me to use automated tweets and fb comments just so i can keep the score up. I feel a vacation function to where you keep your current score but you would not be able to move up unless the vacation feature was turned off. I notice a great decrease in my score when I have gone out of town.

I am happy with one out of fice topics I am currently associated with. According to Klout I am an expert on Egypt when in fact I volunteer at the Egyptian theater in Hollywood. How can this situation be prevented from happening. How are topics determined currently?

Additionally I too would like to know more about any plans for regional topical influence.

I think 3 of my topics are understandable, the rest absolutely not. I blog about the Hoover Dam, that’s pretty much all I talk about, but I don’t have that as a topic? Instead, I have beer, which I don’t even drink.

Klout has decided that I’m influential about LinkedIn. I’m at least 98% certain I’ve never once engaged in a Facebook or Twitter conversation about LinkedIn. I used to have other topics included, such as “Heaven,” rather ironic for an atheist (and not a militant one, either… I simply don’t discuss religion, ever). Now there are no topics other than LinkedIn on my influential topics list (used to include technology, startups, and hurricanes), so today someone +K’ed me for LinkedIn.

    Completely useless.

Hi Sam, we’re currently not adding any new topics to our system but we’ve noted your request for slacklining for the future.
