Top 10 Museums with Klout

September 1st, 2011 by Lan Nguyen

To avoid becoming obsolete, museums have followed us into the digital world where we spend more and more of our time. By developing an online presence, museums engage with a younger audience (and potentially future patrons) as well as established art aficionados. In addition to keeping museum-goers updated on the newest exhibitions, museums also share great content. They usually highlight a piece or obscure fact at an opportune time, allowing you to step completely outside your world and appreciate the ingenuity or beauty of something. For example, the SF Moma recently tweeted “SFMOMA salutes Steve Jobs for a job well done,” and linked a photo of a Powerbook from 2001. Given all the discussion lately about Steve Jobs’ legacy at Apple, his place among great businessman, and the future of Apple without him, we completely ignored his artistic contributions.

With that, here are the top ten museums. Check to see if your favorite made the list.

Pretty impressive line up.  Surprised Brookyln Museum isn’t showing.

Two of mine made the list above. Sorry to see that the Philadelphia Museum Of Art was not one of them.

Great post, but I wanted to point out that the Smithsonian isn’t one museum, but rather 19 of them (plus the National Zoo). Each museum has its own separate twitter account as well. A few have klout scores that earn them a spot in this list. For example, @americanhistory ties @smithsonian, @tate and @metmuseum with a score of 69. @airandspace ties @LACMA with a score of 62. I know the Smithsonian is a bit of a different animal and I might be splitting hairs, but wanted to recognize the efforts of my colleagues at @americanhistory and @airandspace on audience engagement.

    I like the Smithsonian

It’s a shame that a person who posts irrelevant sarcasm like me has a higher klout score than museums dedicated to sharing a wealth of information and history with people.
More people need to admire and be involved with history

Okay I am a bit confused. I am a personal development author but my first book is not due out until October. How is it that my Klout score (70) is higher than all of these world famous museums?
