SXSW: Do you *know* how influential I am?

August 16th, 2011 by Joe Fernandez

Influence is not new, but the ability to measure it at scale is. As social media evolves, the power of the everyday influencer is growing. Our friends and peers are shaping all of our decisions from where to go to dinner to what computer to buy. I want to present at SXSW to answer the hard questions. Can influence truly be measured? Does caring about someone’s influence make you an asshole? When should businesses rely on influence metrics and how can they leverage them?

If you want to hear more, I’d love it if you vote for my session at SXSW: “Do you *know” how influential I am?”

I’ll clear up some misconceptions, deal with hard facts, and give you practical tips on how to look at influence today. I can’t wait.

Thats an interesting aspect of social media, the quantization of human interaction. Though thats only looking a simple connections(friends list, comments back and forth, etc). What about the actual contents of those connections? Does it cross a line when a computer program can read and understand the emotional content of a connection? Or what a corporation does with that data?

Please clear this up: Why do I see Kloutperks that are either closed or ones that I am ineligible for? There’s got to be a way to show Klout users what is actually relevant and real for them in terms of these perks.

You guys are definitely moving into a new frontier – which is great for everyone.  Good questions above (do you choose to RT or @reply simply because someone is more influential?).  While it’s unlikely that I’ll be at SXSW next year, I’m sure your session will be an interesting one.

As long as you plan on making the session available online sometime shortly after, I’m for it (as I will likely not be in attendance :-/ )

but it turns out that you cant unlink from the network according to the instructions and you also cannot have your profile hidden not to be seen. there are promises that this might come in the future. It turns out this feature USED to be implemented and I could have a profile that no one else can see.

I have contacted Klout to be told the above If I disconnect twitter from the account the score and the profile still stay active and visible to all.

Finally I should point out that you have edited your own forums to remove previous conversations I have had on this topic. you have dodged and avoided this conversation several times in email and you simply do not accept that if someone asks for their klout profile to be utterly removed ( not simply network disconnected ) but fully 404′d on your website that this is a valid request.

this may not be the best forums but I think people who want to praise Klout should know that your handling of data removal requests is less than salutatory.
