Is there a way to put a hash tag or something to highlight what topic I’m tweeting about?  My tweets are very focused but Klout can’t figure out what topics of mine are influential & get mentions or retweets.

This is a great idea! How will this effect your overall Klout score?

We need a +K Button for our blogs! There are simply not enough buttons in this world! :)

How can you prevent people who have multiple Twitter accounts (spam, or otherwise) from bumping up influence for their collection of accounts, though?

Wouldn’t self-submission of topics defeat the purpose of having +Ks if “receiving +K allows you to remain influential in that topic for longer”?

If I “x” out … say, six topics, will they be removed when it updates tomorrow AM and filed in with more/different topics

Hey Daniel, so if you hide topics and Klout finds new topics that you are influential about we will display those instead. We update topics weekly. 

There would be a higher bar for self-submission of topics — i.e. you would need more people to give you +K before we would add a new topic. But we’ll give you more details about that when we make that feature available. Thanks!

Reminds me of chatroom-based “kharma” bots we used to use a few years ago. But I have to admit, heading all the way over to the Klout site to tell you someone influenced me? Where’s the reward?

Looks like a nice feature. Too bad I can’t try it… haven’t got any assigned topics up till now.

I’ve always found the topics to be fairly representative of what I’ve been most “influential” on in a given time period.  Some were questionable, so good to be able to delete those.  Not sure how actively I will score others on their klout topics…time will tell.  Thanks for continually updating and listening to your fans as well as your detractors!!  I’m a fan!

Does the Klout of the person giving the +K matter? Someone with a high Klout score should be able to award more points, or have higher value points to give, than someone with a lower score.

It will weed out the people that dont deem it worth the time (like yourself). Klout has created a social currency. It NEEDS to be difficult and certainly not as easy as adding a +K to a tweet or @-mention. Could you imagine what our twitter streams would look like? At that rate, the worth of a +K would be next to nothing. 

This is the best way it could be done and I’m sure as things go, the whole idea and process will be streamlined. Nice work, Klout Team!

I think this is a great idea! I do agree with @twitter-1974881:disqus that +K coming from those with higher Klout should count more than say someone with a Klout of 10. I also agree that we don’t need more blog buttons. This should be something within the Klout community that you actually have to take the time to come back to the site and award the Klout. It makes the +K worth more and makes the awarding of Klout more of a ‘thank you’ than just a click of a ‘like’ button on a blog. 

On another note, 5 a day seems like a bit much. I would rather award 5 points to the 5 people that most influenced me during the previous month. I wouldn’t even mind a monthly email reminding me to go back and award those 5 people. Great idea guys! Love it!

I can’t believe I missed the chat even after I left early to get there! A few people asked me tonight “how will this affect the Klout score” and of course “I don’t know” is the answer. I see Dustin also asked in the comments here. Surely you have addressed this yet I do not know the answer. So, “how will a +K affect the score?”

I like the idea of adding our own topics. Or at least finding out how your algorithm assigns them.

I started something called the #kloutwars last year with coworkers in politics. First @Kirk4Senate:twitter , then @SenatorKirk:twitter , and now at my church @ChurchAnywhere:twitter  

The goal was to get everyone to use their personal social media accounts better, and the competition has worked fantastically.  Klouts new “Lists” feature has made tracking the #kloutwars waaaay easier.

Weeding out people doesn’t mean that it is influential. It could mean that it reduces the sample to the same three people commenting each time.

I feel this is just yet another step to help us keep our “giving and sharing” culture in social media. Too many people jump into these networks with only intentions to receive, and they spam our Twitter streams, they DM, they purchase likes on Facebook or followers on Twitter, etc. If it remained very difficult to get follows on Twitter, the value would be astronomically higher than it is now. I see +K the same way. Make it too easy and it cheapens it. Require users to give to others? Brilliant. Well done Klout team, you’re continuing to improve with each feature!

I like +K and see it evolving as social currency.

Convenience is key – I’m sure a “give Klout” button is coming for blogs and sharing sites, if it’s not already out there.

Most interestingly though, I see +K as remedying the discrepancy between online influencers who’ve gotten a head start in social as compared to offline influencers whose Klout scores don’t reflect their true influence. 

I think +K is a winner.

Well it is all new to me, however – I can say that I prefer a ‘more difficult therefore more worthy’ aspect, and limiting the # of +K you can ’shout out’ to people who influence you therefore limits the ability to have it be of the ’spamming’ nature.  So, I am so into @momfluential:disqus ‘tweet’ concept.  Not saying people can’t come here (I will), to simultaneously feed my kloutego and shout out to my fellow influential tweeps!  BTW @twitter-15814841:disqus you’re influencing me. :)

One major recommendation: Decay rate must be proportional to number of K+’s received.

Since we all do come to Klout with some regularity, what if Klout suggested users/topics to you when you first come to the site (similar to “your score has increased ___ over the past ____ days”).

Here’s a glaring example. @LionKevin – we’ve all seen him on YouTube and elsewhere on his South African lion preserve – and yet “lions” and other assorted  species he’s filmed not listed in topics. although, tiger woods and california do appear =:o

You need to change the timeline.  By setting the recognition at just one week, you diminish the likelihood that the person you recognized with a +K will even see it. Unless they junk up their twitter stream babbling I gave +K today – aren’t I the greatest.

A month means someone who’s not a klout junkie would have a chance to see it.

Ok, Klout team, I hope you can tell on Twitter that I’m your biggest fan, but I’ve got your next challenge for K+ – you need to gamify the K+-giving experience.

I think a good way would be to have a page that documents K+ given over a certain period, or in some way rewards users who become excellent conferrers of trust – these people are, after all, acting to increase your userbase (in cases of new users getting drawn in). However, the reward shouldn’t be Klout-score based, but rather allow individuals to cement their role as curators of social trust. It should also be topic related, so if someone donates tons of K+ in one particular topic, this needs to be indicated. This could even be used as a potential method to draw out influential topics that might not stand out in tweets. 

Oh and another shout-out to your pro team of programmers and engineers; I hope you can bring this metric to a point where the scientific community will hop on board and use it in the granting process.

When you share a link and get a recommended follow, such as Via:@addthis or @youtube, can you somehow (minus k) -K those. I think it’s cheating to get klout for being a default button on a popular link sharing site.

Just a point about topics… a lot of people who mention the word “patriots” quite often in their tweets, usually in a socio-political sense, are being marked as “influential about New England Patriots”.  Is there no way for you to differentiate as to whether we’re tweeting about patriotism (political-cultural) as opposed to being obsessed with an American sports team?

This is a great way to promote influence based on topics that you are actually influential about, however I am sceptical of the ‘voluntary topics’ coming soon. This could lead to a lot of self promotion and manipulation by those with multiple accounts.

I wish there were a way that you could just type #plusK on a tweet and have it logged in for the person as you retweet them. Most of us don’t have time to stop in every day and give kudos even though we ARE appreciative for tweets and those that tweet them.

While the innovation of Klout is exceptional, it is, unfortunately, in need of a reduction of scope; no allowance for quality of content is made, i.e., if I post a hundred FB/Twitter updates about how much I enjoy coffee, I am rewarded w/ a higher score than if I post 10 about relevant subjects.

This notwithstanding, I find the +K parameter to be enlightened. Perhaps as time evolves the Klout measurement will also.

@Cheryl Waller — perhaps giving Klout to 5 people a day is too much. but i’d definitely like more than five a month. maybe one a day would be good, or even two every week, with an email a week (that would make 8 – 10 choices a week).  people could choose, say every monday, or however they set it up.  because i do like the email idea. sometimes i need to be reminded.  you have good ideas, cheryl.  and making +klout not too frequent would make it worth something special.  :)

I think you should consider finding a way to measure the Klout generated by a person’s followers at Huffington Post. 

It seems as though your klout influence topics are based on the topics popularity ratio among all users, rather than your actually ratio of topics mentioned. Which isn’t worth anything to me. I thought klout rated inidividual users rather than “trending topics”. Just count the hashtags regardless if you r able to define it for ur logarithm.

I posted about Disney once yet I was most influential about Disney. I don’t care if my topics aren’t popular. I only care to reach a few people, effectively and efficiently. Besides if these topics held any weight at all in your logarithms, they may actually have the potential to be popular.

I also don’t think it’s fair for miscalculated topics to show up for people that have not logged into klout. Give them a number/rating, but do not disclose their specific topics unless they sign on.

I left “silk” as a topic of interest on mine for a while just because it is totally absurd.

This kind of rating system can be controversial – who has the right to decide influence? But overall I think it’s good to develop these semantic ratings. What’s needed is several more rating systems that compete with each other. @tomnora
